Hidden Memories
Hidden Memories came to life after the birth of my daughter Ailen. Her presence triggered off thoughts about my own childhood. And I discovered that there are many moments that I cannot remember. I do not remember the first time I ate all by myself, the new things I played with at the park, or the first time I took a bath. Foreigners

Being a foreigner myself, trying to keep parts of my own culture alive, I am very interested to find out about other people’s experiences in moving to the United States. I enjoy listening to people talking about their homelands, their culture, religions, traditions, and above all, the differences and similarities between their own countries and the country they now live in. I am interested in learning what, if any, traditions, rituals, ways of doing things they keep from home... Keep reading

Photo Booth Express
This project was part of a group exhibition done during my years at San Jose State University. The idea was part of the recurring theme of examining people’s reactions. For this project I photographed over a hundred people. I had a list of ten things: objects, animals, feelings, and phrases. I would ask every person to sit in front of the same backdrop, as if they were sitting at a photo booth, and an assistant would read the same list to each of them. My job was to capture their reaction to each word, phrase, feeling, sound. I then had a strip of ten photos representing every person. The strips were put together in panels, and displayed one next to the other so that people could have a look at how differently we react to the same trigger. |
