This project came to life when I realized the amount of people that live in the Bay Area but are actually from different parts of the world. Being a foreigner myself, trying to keep parts of my own culture alive, I am very interested to find out about other people’s experiences in moving to the United States. I enjoy listening to people talking about their homelands, their culture, religions, traditions, and above all, the differences and similarities between their own countries and the country they now live in. I am interested in learning what, if any, traditions, rituals, ways of doing things they keep from home. I photographed around twenty people, and then asked them to write a paragraph telling me about traditions that they have kept alive when moving to the United States. I got a wealth of stories, anecdotes, and even a poem. This is a work in progress. |
